They get gummed up with stuff, maybe even dead toads or gekko poop. To make the printer auto-clean the head, hold down the power button until it starts making noises like a dead toad is being scraped across some paper. That should clean it up, or print a test page, or maybe just upload those photos you didn't want your grandma to see to your facebook page.
