Blog? How can a blog help my business?

You shouldn’t be asking yourself how a blog can help your business but more importantly when you will be launching a blog for your business. We talk to many people who can’t seem to understand the value of a blog for their business which I find just fascinating. If you are going to be serious about driving an online business you will have to be serious about incorporating every aspect of online marketing into your strategy, including blog marketing.

One thing you have to realize is that a blog is more than just a journal, it is a communication tool between your company and the outside world. There are many different ways you can really optimize the use of your blog posts to drive in new traffic and create much needed business for yourself. By simply incorporating keywords into your blog posts you can quickly see your blog posts ranking for many different targeted keywords. It is important to always write blog posts for humans but there should always be elements of blog marketing and search engine optimization in all your posts. A blog can be used in many ways to pull new traffic and business in. You could use it as a how to guide, new products or simply just a way to give your audience any new information on your industry or your business.

Make sure your blog are interesting and inviting. Cater your blog so that you stand out from your audience a bit. Blogs don’t have rules, it is OK to go against the grain and put anything you want in them.

Don’t forget to promote your blog on all of your Social Media Marketing Networks. Remember you are using the social networking sites to bring new traffic to your website. Not the other way around!

How to CREATE and CHANGE Mac OS X folder icons

Surprisingly, lots of people don’t know how to change the icons of folders and documents on a the mac os x platform.  Read below for further simple manual instructions on How To Change any of your icons including mac os x application icons.

While there are various methods of doing so, the manual is the simplest way to start instantly changing the icons of an item.  By downloading folders with the icon attatched you can use already created folder image icons or create you own (should you be blessed with the photoshop abilities and know how or simply visit Iconic).

Step 1: Create your own or go and download some icon folders!

Suggested place to download folder icons:

Iconic (Iconic is a free application that creates beautiful custom folder icons for Apple’s Mac OS X Leopard)

Icon Archive
Apple Downloads
Glance.com

Step 2: Take the folder or file that you want to change its icon, and click ‘Get Info’

Step 3: Then take the folder with the icon that you want to replace the original with, and also click ‘Get Info’ you should end up with this:

Step 4: Select the icon you want to replace the original with, it should be highlighted blue when u click on it. Copy it, and then click on the icon that will be replaced (again, it should be highlighted blue) and then, paste it. Viola, complete!

SPAM issues

SPAM ISSUES

Client:  I am having trouble with important emails being directed to my Junk Mail Box.

Hey ******,
The SPAM issues you are having are a result of your email SPAM filters.  All email applications have SPAM filters these days.  Unfortunately I only have a few simple suggestions that might help.

  1. You should be able to change your SPAM filter settings.  SPAM filters can usually be changed to be more or less strict.  That will change how and what the SPAM filters label and don’t label as SPAM.
  2. You can also simply turn the SPAM filters OFF completely
  3. Lastly you can just periodically check your SPAM or JUNK MAIL BOX and mark the corresponding emails as ‘NOT JUNK’ which can help validate future emails over time.
  4. Blacklists & Whitelists are also another way SPAM filter settings can help to allow or deny emails coming from a specific server or web address or email address.  Visit this site for more info. http://www.allspammedup.com/anti-spam/spam-filter-blacklists-and-whitelists/

Muddy HP Printing

Hey Randall,
Thanks for thinking of me.  My experience with trouble shooting printer issues is limited.  My advise is to contact HP customer support.  Muddy prints are usually issues with the actually printer itself.  If the printer is under warranty then I would let them replace it or try to fix it.  If it is not then a new printer might be your best bet.  You can find some good printers for great prices.  It’s the ink that gets costly.
Thank you.

Hi Ian,
How are you?

Are you any good at trouble shooting computer to printer issues?  I have an HP printer.  My photos are not printing as they appear on my screen.  Have tried to find out if the two machines are in conflict………Not sure.  In any case the prints are not satisfactory. Kind of muddy.   Any advice?  I would gladly hire you to trouble shoot it here in my office if you thought you could figure it out.

Back-up Files

With the stormy winter months fast approaching it is a good idea to back-up your files.  You never know when you’re gonna get struck by lightning.  Besides that…it is a good idea to back up your important documents quarterly or at least yearly.  Plus the average shelf life of most computers is about 3 years give or take (usually take).   I back-up all of my files on an external hard drive.  For quick and more frequent back-ups I will use a flash drive for important files and documents or upload them to a secure folder on the web.  When backing up videos and photos or even email databases it’s not a bad idea to use a write-able CD or DVD depending on file sizes.

Whatever you choose as a backup storage device isn’t the main concern.  The most important factor is simply to back-up your files.  It’s also not a back idea to set a recurring reminder or setup an automated file back-up system.  Not too long ago apple launched “Time Machine” which in my opinion is a brilliant easy to use…as automated as it gets…complete computer back-up application that runs in the background when you want it to without messing with performance so you can still what you do while it does what it does.  There’s nothing worse than losing a month or two worth of work or photo memories because you forgot to back-up your files.

Now go Back-up for stuff!
